According to worldovariancancercoalition.org, signs of ovarian cancer can easily be mistaken for less severe illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome or even menopause.  The World Ovarian Cancer Coalition Every Woman Study found that nine in ten women diagnosed with ovarian cancer experienced multiple symptoms prior to diagnosis, regardless of the stage of diagnosis or the type of ovarian cancer.

Alarmingly the study also found that over two-thirds of women had not heard of ovarian cancer or knew anything about it prior to their diagnosis.
