According to ncbi.nlm.nih.gov the incidence of thyroid cancer has rapidly increased in the United States and other developed countries over the past 30 years with studies finding nearly a three fold increase from 1975 to 2009 from 4.9 to 14.3 per 100,000 individuals.  While some researchers believe this is a true increase in thyroid cancer, others believe the increase is due to better diagnostic testing resulting in early diagnosis, treatment and cure.
